The Human Power To Connect
I am inspired by the words of Václav Havel, "The salvation of this human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human modesty, and in human responsibility."
He spoke these words in February 1990 while speaking to the United States Congress.
He was calling out for a world of collaboration and understanding in a simplistic, grounded way that was the essence of his Being.
Vaclav Havel knew the voice of the Being behind the "I" we all lead within our lives.
He knew the power of reflection, the power of connection, and the power of opening our hearts to a new paradigm.
The most critical time we can spend reflecting on our lives with ourselves.
We are programmed to be busy, stressed, and achieving. We are trained to believe we must be on the move to feel safe.
I learned early in life to keep moving so they don't get me.
My commitment to myself was to go as fast and as far up the ladder of life because I thought that was the safe way.
Don't ask me who "they" are; I have no idea. The feeling of all my innards on the move became familiar.
It never occurred to me to be curious about my inner life even when I reached the goal of an executive position in a multi-national corporation. I was following the playbook of those who taught me and were the leaders with whom I surrounded myself.
In these later years, I have learned the value of reflection.
Our station in life has no impact on how connected we are to our hearts.
You can damage your physical, emotional, and spiritual self if you ignore the call to reflect on your life.
It is a time of inner peace when I listen to the birds sing, the trees move with the wind, and experience the sun coming up over the horizon. My heart opens, and I feel the connection to the Being behind my "I."
If you feel like your inner body parts are racing ahead of you, I recommend taking time for reflection.
If you are like me, you can feel your heart racing and the twists in your stomach. It's your body trying hard to get ahead of where you are in the moment.
Take a breath.
Sit down.
Close your eyes.
Speak gratitude for your life and all the gifts you have in your hands.
Namaste
