Life Gets In The Way
Have you ever noticed events, people, and circumstances get in the way when you have something essential and desirous you want to be doing?
It's a mystery.
Here you are with a great project you are itching to get when you realize there are other things you have to take care of first.
You know what I mean.
It's things like walking the dog, going to the grocery store, cleaning the house, taking care of the kids, and on and on it goes.
It's not that the things you are doing are not necessary.
Usually, they are an integral part of our lives.
But don't you find it frustrating?
I do.
Now, I have to wait until tomorrow to get started on the project I told myself is so vital and exciting.
Our tendency, or maybe it's just me, is to engage in what shows up in front of us.
Our self-talk says if we get this one thing done, we can get to what matters to us.
However, research shows what we are doing is reacting from a state of non-presence.
Almost forty-seven percent of the time, we are not present in the moment.
Here are some ideas to help make decisions from present moment awareness:
1: MASTER MINDFUL CHOICE - Ask yourself, can the errand wait?
2. SLOW DOWN - rather than scarfing down a donut before taking the kids to tennis lessons and baseball, plan so you can take care of yourself.
3. TRUST- You can trust your instincts if you listen closely. Usually, you'll get the correct answer as to what you need to do.
4. MAKE IT AN EVENT- when you have chosen to do one thing ahead of another. Then you can be present and enjoy the ride instead of being in it mindlessly.
