Want Better Results? Ask Better Questions
"What is it you really want in your life?"
No doubt you have heard this question more than once.
It drops in regularly when you are engaged in personal development or a process that has you looking at and analyzing your life.
When the question of what do you really want is put to us, our brains go into searching our database for an answer that, on the surface, looks like it makes sense.
What answers does your mind give you?
Do you think these answers are accurate?
Would you say something like
I want more peace
I want a great relationship
I want my health to be better
Our minds are providing placebo answers to satisfy our craving for certainty. The answers seem like they have value.
In some way, maybe they do have value, except here's the problem.
The answers are not substantive enough to wake up the inner you, the authentic you, to move your process forward.
Our brains are wired for certainty.
When we think we know the answer, we feel comfortable.
However, when there is uncertainty, we feel uncomfortable and can go into procrastination because we don't know what to do.
We need better questions if we want better results in our quest for a life or career plan.
Here are some examples that may yield better answers and, therefore, superior results:
What's missing for you right now?
What is your legacy?
What do you long for in your life?
What primary belief or behaviour are you holding on to that prevents you from living your life in your unique way?
We need questions that get us past the barriers of conditioning and wake us up to getting in touch with our authentic nature.
