Experience Space Rather Than Self-Suffocation

When I was in my teen years, my father sent me to a Junior Forest rangers camp in the Ontario wilderness.

I was on my own for the first time in my life in a camp with nineteen other boys.

One of the fellows was a big guy they called Tiny. He bullied me regularly.

I remember feeling trapped, alone, afraid, and at a deep level, angry. My sense of suffocation was complete because there was no escape from the camp.

One day, I just exploded at this big guy in hand-to-hand combat. I got my ass kicked, but I felt space inside me.

We will suffer in this life because not every day is a beautiful, joyful day.

Those close to us and some who are not make our lives difficult because they take up mental if not physical space. We suffocate and don't realize it because we are deep into the situation.

We give away our space.

We feel it in real-time because our energy gets low, and we are consumed by what they will do next.

How do we give up self suffocation and create space?

1. Start by looking inward. See what's real.

2. Pay attention to how you feel when you think about other people or when you are in their presence.

3. Unwrap the moment's richness to see what there is to learn.

4. Practice self-compassion and loving thoughts of yourself.

When you have space in your life, you have creativity available.

You will have the energy and perspective to navigate your journey in a way that serves you.
