Bang Your Head Against The Wall

There is a saying I’ve heard that goes something like this when you keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results, you have the definition of insanity.

However, in my work as a life coach, stepping back from the perceived problem of the client and guiding them to their conclusion as to their way forward requires presence, patience, and persistence.

Why?

Because most of us want the five steps to success, the six fundamental building blocks of relationships, or the contract we need to gain self-esteem.

It’s the can-do approach to quick fixes.

When we see a problem, many of us are trained to find a fix and implement the solution as soon as possible so we can feel secure again.

In other words, we keep trying to solve problems by doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting different results.

What if we took the time and space to live in the unknown for a while and see what emerged?

This requires confidence that guidance is available to us at the right time and place to take us where we need to go. That’s when the magic happens because our hearts are open to guidance.

My process is to take in information, let it percolate for at least twenty-four hours, and see what comes up as the next step.

Practice waiting. Practice looking with presence and use your skill of patience to let things unfold.

Anne Morrow Lindberg writes, “The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach–waiting for a gift from the sea.”
