Go Fetch!
My dog Toby is a seventy-five-pound, six-year-old, Sheepadoodle with energy to burn.
I think he has leadership skills from which we can learn something about our lives.
Here's what I mean.
When Toby and I play ball, he is fully present, energized, and focussed.
When I show him the ball, every fiber of his being is alert. When I pitch the ball, he does not hesitate to go after it at full speed.
His focus is solely on getting the prize.
His energy is devoted to completing the task with almost nothing getting in his way.
Once he has the ball, the chances of getting it from him are close to zero. He relishes his accomplishment. He usually sits triumphant with his head held high while he plays with his ball.
Perhaps there is something to learn from him about going for what we want.
Do you have the focus, energy, and persistence to fetch?
I mean in the manner Toby goes for it.
The prize is in our mind's eye. We see it, we want it, and we feel it.
Toby's lesson is simple.
He does not question his motive.
We usually have a self-talk session with our ego to see if we should or shouldn't go after it. Sometimes the ego wins, and we back off.
Then regret sets in while we whine about not getting what we said we wanted.
Our old life strategies get in the way.
Changing life strategies to get what you want takes practice, intention, and persistence.
